Russian petrochemical giant Sibur (Moscow; www.sibur.ru) is considering the establishment of a large-scale polyolefin complex in Belogorsk, in Russia's Amur region near its border with China. To secure the necessary feedstock supply, Sibur CEO Dmitry Konov on 1 November inked a memorandum of cooperation with Gazprom's (Moscow / Russia; www.gazprom. com) Alexey Miller, chairman of the management committee. Gazprom is planning to build several natural gas production centres in Yakutia and Irkutsk in the coming years which are to supply the site in Belogorsk with ethane and other feedstock. As for Sibur, it plans to build an ethane cracker as well as several downstream units for polyolefins at the site.
