The latest study by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA; www.efsa.europa.eu) for the European Commission, looking at the role of bisphenol A as a possible endocrine disruptor, concludes basically that it is not. This evaluation could seriously weaken the position of France, which is seeking to restrict usage of the chemical used as a feedstock for polycarbonate and in epoxy resin-based can liners on the grounds it may be a human reproductive toxicant.
