The reactions of 1,2-dicarbadodecaborane-1,2-dithiol with tetrachloroethene, oxalyl chloride, phosgene, triphosgene and thiophosgene have been examined and S=CS2C2B10H10 isolated, The crystal structure of S=CS2C2B10H10 reveals a stacked arrangement of the planar {S2C=S} moieties present in the molecule, but intermolecular distances are all greater than the van der Waals contact distance, the shortest S...S distance of 3.552(1) Angstrom lying between the singly bonded sulfurs, S(CB10H10C)...S(CB10H10C).
