Three heteronuclear Cu(II)/Na(I) complexes, [Cu_2(salen) _2Na(ClO_4)(CH_3CN)] (1) [Cu_2(vanen) _2Na_2(μ_(1,1)-NCS)_2] (2) and [(Cu)_2(L)_2(Na)_2(μ_(1,1)-CH _3CN)(H_2O)(ClO_4)]ClO_4 (3), where H2salen = N,N′-ethylenebis-(salicylideneimine) and H _2vanen = N,N′-(1,2-ethylene)-bis(3-methoxysalicylideneimine), have been prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Two Cu(II)-salen units are connected by an Na ion in complex 1. Two Cu(II)-vanen-Na(I) moieties are connected by bridging thiocyanate groups in complex 2. A novel end-on bridging asymmetric acetonitrile is observed in complex 3.
