The title complex has been prepared by the reaction of [Co(Hdmg)(2)(NH3)(2)]Cl with CuCl2 in HCl solution (where Hdmg = dimethylglyoxime monoanion) and its crystal structure has been determined by Xray diffraction. The Co(III) and Cu(II) atoms lie on different two-fold axes. The coordination geometries around the Co(III) and Cu(II) atoms are octahedral and distorted trigonal bipyramidal, respectively. The Hdmg chelates Co(III) and bridges to the Cu(II) atoms to form a polyheteronuclear helical structure along the c axis. Based on the structure the IR spectrum of the complex is discussed.
