摘要

Type IV secretion systems (T4SS) mediate the selective translocation of macromolecules across the cell envelope of Gram negative and positive bacteria. These machines are involved in bacterial functions as different as conjugative DNA transfer and virulence. T4SS can secrete a variety of substrates (protein, DNA, nucleoprotein complexes, or even peptidoglycan) into different target cells (prokaryotic and eukaryotic) or into the milieu (Alvarez-Martinez and Christie, 2009).
