RALPH Timpner has relied on various herbicides containing atra-zine to provide economical weed control in corn throughout his farming lifetime. Like most farmers, he considers the triazine compound to be a valuable tool on the 3,500 acres he no-tillsor conservation tills with brother Gary near Pinckneyville in southern Illinois. "We can take care of early season weeds, but weeds that come later in the growing season are more a problem," says Ralph. "We went to a two-pass weed control program a couple years ago. It works. We had pretty clean corn last year," he adds.
