A friend 15 miles a way got hit hard by flooding, and I didn't. He has an extra grain bin I could use. Will storage pay this year? If so, how much can I pay him to use it and still justify hauling it that far? Erickson: I would encourage you to compare your current storage costs against a fair price for using your friend's bin. The bin is easily worth 10 cents a bushel plus utilities, but should be worth more if the bin will be used more than six months. Compare that to your current storage costs and remember to consider trucking costs. You may have the opportunity to deliver grain from the bin directly to a terminal market, which should give you a better price for the stored grain compared to a country elevator price.
