Preparation and characterization of organo-silicon dipping film on the surface of optical resins

Comparing to optical glass, optical resins have the advantages of high impact strength, light weight, low cost, and forming convenience. It was used to represent of optical glass and optical crystal in a lot of fields. But the applications of optical resins were often restricted by some shortcomings, low surface hardness is one of the basic shortcomings of optical resins. To improve the surface hardness of optical plastics, various kinds of methods including physical and chemical process were chosen, among them, abrasion resistant film by chemical process prepared from cross-linking polymerization is effective and convenient. Organo-silicon resins (heat-curing type), amino-resins (heat-curing type) and acrylate resins (UV light curing type) are often used as the coating materials. In this paper, a new kind of organo-silicon optical coating was prepared and firstly used onto polycarbonate (PC) resin by dip coating. The surface of PC resin was pretreated and the changes of its molecular structure were studied by XPS methods. The changes of viscosity of the coating and the particle size of the colloidal in the coating solution were monitored and studied by Photo Correlation Spectroscopy. The thermal-curing process of the coating was studied by FTIR.
