During the past several years, many kinds of macrocyclic oligomers have been synthesized and widely studied as useful precursors for ROP(Ring-Opening Polymerization) of high-performance plastics, such as cyclic esters, amides, ether imides, ether ketones, and ether sulfones. In recent years, the polymer scientists have diverted their interests from structural materials to functional materials. So many kinds of new macrocyclic monomers have been designed and synthesized to get functionalized oligomers. For some inherent advantages of the macrocyclic aryl ether ketone oligomers: a rigid structure; a size-controllable cavity; high stabilization against high temperature and rigorous chemical or physical condition, so if the macrocyclic aryl (ether ketone) could be arranged controllable to get an ordered 2-Dimentional or 3-Dimentional superstructure by self-assembly or covalent C-C bonding. The superstructure may act as templates for the arrangements of substances whose organization parameters are even more difficult to control, they may facilitate epitaxial or topographic organization. Some primary work has been done in our lab.
