To limit the risk of bleeding, perforation, occlusion and death linked to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), the main strategy is to limit the use of NSAIDs by choosing other analgesics, especially paracetamol. NSAIDs provoke other serious adverse effects in addition to gastrointestinal disorders.When NSAID therapy is considered necessary, the drugs with the best harm-benefit balances should be used, such as ibuprofen and naproxen, at the lowest effective dose and for the shortest duration. Patients should be advised to discontinue NSAID therapy if they develop stomach pain or gastrointestinal bleeding.
