摘要

Despite factory-made cigarettes being the most consumed tobacco product, the importance of roll-your-own cigarette (RYO) use is increasingly highlighted, particularly in countries where a substantial proportion of smokers use RYO such as Netherlands, Belgium, UK, Canada, and New Zealand (Leatherdale et al., 2010; EU-Eurobarometer, 2010; Ministry of Health New Zealand, 2007). From the public health viewpoint, RYO use has been of particular concern because RYO cigarettes are typically taxed at a lower level than manufactured cigarettes encouraging especially younger smokers with lower incomes to smoke RYO (Young et al., 2006; Young et al., 2010). Moreover, the use of RYO is more harmful than manufactured cigarette use (Shahab et al., 2009; O'Connor et al., 2007; Young et al., 2006).
