The measurement of forces in mechanical engineering, in aerospace and in the energy and building industries needs procedures to guarantee nominal values for force transducers up to 30 MN with suitable trace-ability. Newly developed force transfer standards, configured as a buildup system of several reference transducers, have therefore to be investigated. In addition, parasitic components and different loading effects will be analyzed in order to consider these effects if the devices are used in industrial applications. In Europe, there is an increasing demand to measure high nominal forces up to 30 MN, or higher, in many industrial applications such as, e.g., in civil engineering, or for the monitoring of forces in bridges and for the testing of steel and concrete materials. NMIs and calibration laboratories in industry usually use force standard machines with deadweights, hydraulic amplification, lever amplification, reference transducers or build-up systems to cover the force range up to 15 MN. However, there are neither written standards nor technical regulations for the consideration of parasitic components, multi-component influences or different time dependencies. Reliable models for the extrapolation of measurement results exceeding their calibration range have to be developed in this project to cover forces up to 30 MN and, in future, up to 50 MN.
