Quality promoting organizations across the world have developed national quality award (NQA) programs to assist organizations in checking on the performance of their implemented quality management systems. Almost all the existing NQAs are compared by developing a framework for their evaluation criteria. The framework consists of 11 major criteria, embodying the main principles and addresses all areas that need to be covered in order to implement a strategic quality management plan. Their evaluation criteria are analyzed to unravel similarities and differences.Based on this study, the authors deduced guidelines to assist in the establishment, maintenance and refinement of NQAs.
