摘要

This study seeks to advance the understanding of TQM by examining it in relation to organization strategy, and also resolve the inconsistencies that have appeared in literature concerning the relationships among organization strategy in terms of differentiation and cost leadership, organizational structure in terms of extent of implementation of TQM, and organizational performance in terms of quality and innovation. This empirical study, conducted with data drawn from a survey of 194 middle/ senior managers from various industry sectors of Australia, uses the structural equation modeling (SEM) technique to analyze through examining two competing models that represent full and partial mediation. The results of the study suggest: TQM positively and significantly relates to differentiation strategy. TQM only partially mediates the relationship between differentiation strategy and performance measures: product quality, product and process innovation. These imply that TQM needs to be complemented in achieving a high level of performance, particularly in innovation.
