Purpose: To present the fundamentals of statistical engineering along with examples of successful applications taken from a wide range of organizations. Summary: Statistical engineering emerged as a new field of knowledge after the exposition of Roger W. Hoerl and Ronald D. Snee (Ref. 1). Though not exclusive and totally new within the field of statistics, it has enormous potential to expand the applications by opening synergistic vistas working with scientists and engineers. This paper explores the classical approach to statistical applications in industry examines definitions of statistical engineering and its basic principles and by describes real application with the results. Whether the statistical engineering projects arise out of organizational need or from the instigation of the statistician it will be successful only with management support. (5 refs.)
