摘要

To examine whether there is a relationship between getting an award for quality and high organizational performance. The paper considers whether an award encourages excellence or whether a selfassessment process is a more important driver towards high performance. Further, it examines the proposition that awards may be limited to those organizations that are already high performers or operate as per the criteria set by award giving bodies. The paper argues that an award for quality indicates the ability to fulfill the set criteria and as such is not a panacea for excellence. (41 refs.)
