Specialty dissolving pulp (DP) prices are poised to rise worldwide in 2011 after producers Rayonier, Buckeye Technologies, and Tembec separately announced Jan. 1 increases this week due to continued strong demand. Also, the high price of commodity viscose could eventually lead to a temporary swing in production from DP makers. Rayonier executives told analysts during an earnings call on Tuesday about 13-24% increases on its specialty cellulose grades. On Wednesday, Buckeye told analysts it was raising chemical, or cellulose specialty DP grades, by 17% effective Jan. 1. Tembec today said its prices would rise $200/tonne vs levels in the fourth quarter on specialty and commodity viscose DP.
