摘要

To the Editors: We read with interest the article by Dekker et al. (2010) in which they investigated the role of cannabis use in the onset of schizophrenia in adolescent male patients. We feel that at least two issues warrant further discussion. First, throughout the article, it is argued that the naive group has brain abnormalities, but the use of this term seems inappropriate. An abnormality refers to "an anomaly, malformation, or difference from the normal". Yet the naive group's fractional anisotropy integrity appears to be within the normal range of healthy male adolescents (Asharti et al., 2007). Second, the title of the article implies that there was an effect of cannabis on the onset of schizophrenia and brain abnormalities in the current participants. The data, on the other hand, do not demonstrate an effect of cannabis use. Thus, the title is misleading and will cause casual readers to misinterpret the findings of this study. Nonetheless, the current data contribute to a developing database on this important area of clinical research.
