This issue of Psychosomatic Medicine includes two papers and an editorial on adolescent health and the role of bio-behavioral processes, with a focus on inflammation. Pietras and Goodman (pages 442-448) investigated the relationship between socioeconomic status and inflammation in a school-based sample of 941 adolescents. The researchers found that social disadvantage, specifically low level of parent education, was associated with increased inflammation markers (inter-leukin 6 and sTNFR2). Adiposity explained only some of the associations, suggesting other factors link socioeconomic status to inflammation. No associations with household income were found.
