摘要

Intravenous lipid emulsions (ILEs) are used as a high-calorie nutritional source and to prevent essential fatty acid deficiency in patients who are unable to obtain adequate enteral nourishment. Over the last few years, mounting evidence supports ILE as a potentially beneficial antidote, not only in local anesthetic toxicity but also in cardiovascular collapse or central nervous system depression secondary to overdose of highly lipophilic medications. The overall rate of adverse effects (AEs) associated with ILEs is low, though they may include hypertriglyc-eridemia, acute pancreatitis, cholestasis, and increased risk of infection. Hematological AEs of ILEs are relatively rare, and almost all of the cases occur in pediatric patients following long-term exposure.
