I recently participated in an exercise at a workshop on "Leveraging Experienced Leaders." Quick, before you read any further, write down three qualities of an effective leader. Were your three qualities reflective of a current or previous leader or neither? If you could create your "ideal" leader, what qualities would they possess to inspire you to do your best at your job? Each leader I have worked with in my career had a "style" of leadership. In my exercise, I made a long list of qualities; however, my top-three were someone with sound integrity, a positive attitude, and an approachable personality. Under these top-three I also want a leader who is honest, supportive, encouraging, adaptable, a creative thinker, and accountable and my list keeps going.
