THE days of shopping around between wholesalers may be over, with a commitment to one wholesaler now touted as the best way to maximise discounts and efficiency. 'The worm has turned,' said Bruce Annabel, of Johnstone Rorke Associates. 'The pharmacy owners have had all the clout in the past but with all the changes in regards to supply, such as more direct supply and more genetics, I think pharmacy owners now need to be relevant to the wholesalers, not the other way around. You're not going to get maximum discounts if you're not relevant, so pharmacy owners should commit the majority of their business to one.'
