The final pipe was recendy laid in die Statoil-operated Polarled Pipeline, which will open up a new highway for gas from the Norwegian Sea to Europe. Statoil will be tapping into the rich resources in the Norwegian continental shelf and transporting the gas via a subsea gas pipeline to the shore of Norway, in the world's deepest laying operation for the size of pipe. The 482.4 km, 36 inch pipeline was laid at a depth of 1,260 m and lays claim to a host of record achievements.
