Wiston House, Wilton Park, is a splendid 11th century manor nestling in lush Sussex countryside. Owned by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, it is venue for high level international conferences on topics of concern. "The growing danger of biological weapons" was one of its latest events (September 29 - October 1). Its remit was twofold: (a) to establish what progress has been made toward implementation within the Conventions on Chemical and Biological Wespons since a similar conference precisely two years ago; and, (b) to examine the minutiae of processes within Protocols that must serve them.
