The mission of The Polly Hill Arboretum is built on the vision of our founder: Polly Hill. She was a practical and determined gardener. In 1958, at the age of 50, she decided to develop an arboretum on the island of Martha's Vineyard, where her family had maintained a seasonal residence since the 1920s. It was established as a not-for-profit organization in 1998 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.
