摘要

The cultivars of Camellia sasanqua are my favorite camellias in the garden. I keep adding more as I open up new spaces. However, the differences between the wild forms and the cultivars of this species are surprising. There is strong evidence (Parks,et al., 1981, Tanaka, 1985) that this diversity in the cultivated forms carry a limited number of genes from C. japonica. With a particularly good flower display and a wide array of wild and cultivated forms available in the garden and at Camellia Forest Nursery, I decided this was an excellent opportunity to take another look at the range of variation in the C. sasanqua "complex" of cultivars and hybrids.
