Neurocysticercosis (NCC), the infection of the human brain by the larvae of the parasite Taenia solium, is the most common parasitic infection of the nervous system. In countries where the parasite is endemic, NCC is a common reason for hospital admissions and a major cause of acquired epilepsy. Neurocysticercosis is being diagnosed more frequently in industrialized countries because of immigration from endemic zones and tourism in these regions.
