摘要

Globalisation and mass communications increase the likelihood that adolescents in all countries are exposed to ideas, behaviours and information that were once culturally confined. Access to the internet is thought to confer the benefit increased knowledge, but is also thought to increase risk of mental health problems through exposure to harmful material and ideas. However there is as yet only limited evidence available about the nature of these changing risks. The only mental health conditions of emerging concern in resource-constrained countries for which evidence was found, were eating disorders and excessive preoccupation with appearance, for which nine papers were found. The research comprised both case reports and large scale surveys of school groups, which together had collected data from 11,760 adolescents.
