Effective occupational health and safety management is now positioned firmly as a major priority for all Australian organisations. It is receiving due attention from a multitude of perspectives, from compliance and governance, through to risk management, corporate citizenship and even, with recent high profile advertising campaigns, as a public health issue. According to Mr John Curran, SM Global's National Program Manager, OHS organisations have flexible options for building ongoing continual improvement OHS management systems. Mr Curran points to two particular examples. Firstly, he cites the OHS Standard AS/NZS 4801. This offers organisations a viable framework to effectively measure OHS management systems performance against specified requirements of the national Standard. It also has the flexibility to allow for State OHS jurisdictional requirements under OHS legislation.
