Two Standards Australia committee members have received awards in the 2005 Australia Day honours. Louis Awn Challis, Leura, NSW has been appointed a Member in the general division of the Order of Australia for service to engineering as a pioneer in environmental and architectural acoustic engineering, particularly the development of noise Standards, acoustic planning and design of landmark buildings, and advancements in environmental noise testing. Louis Challis joined Standards Australia's AK/3 (now AV/3) Hearing Conservation, and AK/5 (now AV/5) Community Noise committees in 1968, and is still a member of both. He is Chairman of Committee AV/07 Acoustics - Noise from Office and Household Equipment, and also Chairman of Committee EV/10/4 Railway Noise and Railway Noise Intrusion. He is a member of Committee AV/11 Aircraft and Helicopter Noise and Committee EV/16 Acoustics - Wind Turbine Noise.
