Cider's not just about apples. That most aristocratic of alcoholic beverages, the authentic perry, is in fact one of the true treats of the orchard, as Kayleigh Ziolo reveals. It is obvious to any pub frequenter that cider is a blessed beverage. Stillriding high on the wave of its recent renaissance, it has been in the headlines again after a taxation rescue. Market figures are strong, with year on year sales growth of more than 20%. Drinkers now come from many different profiles; from the standardcider loyaKst to the new 'curious traditionalists' who are likely to be seekuig something quirky yet steeped in heritage. There is, however, an elusive English cousin in this family who is overlooked. Mysterious and complex, this curious beverage maintains a small and exclusive following. Perry, the original name for pear cider, is a gentleman of a beverage.
