摘要

Forestry is on the move in the South East. A feeling of optimism is being driven by rising fuel wood prices and many entrants are making money from their forestry. But in this very competitive 34 strong entry it was the combination of inspiring enterprise and stunningly beautiful woods that was so exciting. We came away buoyed up by the enthusiasm of the people we met and the hardest task of our two week tour was choosing winners. We wish there were more prizes and want to emphasise that there are stunning woods, marvelous forestry and enthusiastic and skilled foresters throughout the entries, not just amongst the prize winners. Thank you all for your time and kindness in showing us round your woods, but above and beyond that for the true excellenceof what you are doing - exemplars of all that is best in forestry. We try and reflect your achievement in this report which once again covers four classes: the Duke of Cornwall's Award for Multipurpose Forestry; Silviculture; Farm Woodlands; and Community Woodlands, with the fifth class, the Schools Award, judged separately.
