摘要

Residents lose interest in academic dermatology during residency training for various reasons including bureaucracy, finances, and a lack of mentor-ship (Reck et al., 2006). Studies show a decrease in the retention rates and an increase in the departure rates for academic dermatologists within academic centers (Reck et al., 2006; Loo et al., 2007). Research also indicates that the total number of full-time faculty members in a given program has a positive correlation with graduates entering academic careers (Wu et al., 2006). This trend may impact training for future generations of dermatologists including resident education and types of mentoring (Wu et al., 2006).
