You will have noticed the extra pages in this month's JPD. This is to address a backlog of articles that have built up over the past year since we changed to online submission. In excess of 700 manuscripts were received in 2013 compared with 467 in 2012, a 67% increase, and the increase has continued with over 350 manuscripts received in the first half of 2014. We also had a dramatic rise in thejournal's Impact Factor, a measure of how often the articles in the JPD are cited in other published articles. The JPD's Impact Factor is now 1.724, the highest ever and up from 1.324 last year. Many researchers will only submit their most significant work to journals with a high Impact Factor, so we have seen an increase in the quality as well as the quantity of the manuscripts. The increased number of submissions means additional work for our Editorial Manager, Editorial Assistants, the Editorial Review Board, and our Statistical Consultants. To ensure the validity of the findings, every data-based scientific report is reviewed by a specialist statistical reviewer.
