POSCO announced that it held on November 1 a ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of its new plant for the endless cold-rolling of stainless steel sheets with an annual production capacity of 400,000 tons at its Pohang Works under the timetable for completion by May 2009. Once this new plant is completed, the entire annual cold-rolling capacity of its Pohang Works for stainless steel will be upgraded from the current 300,000 tons to 700,000 tons. If the annual production capacity of 200,000 tons at Taihan ST, which is supplying stainless cold-rolled steel sheets to POSCO under a processing service contract with POSCO on a commission basis, is added thereto, POSCO will become capable of producing 900,000 tons of stainless cold-rolled steel sheets per year.
