Steelmakers Settle Collective Wage Negotiations Successively

The domestic steelmakers are reaching agreements on collective wage bargains one after another ahead of an imminent summer vacation season in July. According to officials of the Korea Iron & Steel Association (KOSA) and steelmakers June 23, the rate of the progress on wage and collective talks the steel sector has reached 41.6 percent, far exceeding the average 22.7 percent for all of the domestic industries. A survey of 36 of its members conducted by the KOSA as of mid-June found 15 firms including POSCO, INI Steel, Dongkuk Steel and Dongbu Steel have completely settled the wage negotiations. Other 14 including Hyundai HYSCO and Hwanyung Steel are in the process of negotiating wages.
