Inventory on the Dufferin County Forest (1,050 ha in twelve blocks) falls somewhere between the large, photo interpretation-based inventory of the boreal and the naming and cataloguing of every tree in the City of Toronto. There are two levels of inventory performed in the Dufferin County Forest. The first is an inventory of the entire forest, done on a ten-year cycle. The second is a more detailed assessment of individual stands in anticipation of preparing a silvicultural prescription. There is anattempt to balance the need for information with the cost of getting that information.
