Richard Dougherty's new book Streamlining Library Services (Scarecrow,2008), which is really the third edition of what was originally a book he co-wrote entitled Scientific Management of Library Operations, is a must-readfor any librarian. The book's subtitle is "What We Do, How Much Time ItTakes, What it Costs, and How We Can Do It Better," but in reality, the sub-title could be "Assessment of Library Operations for Dummies," or evenmore flippantly "Streamlining Library Operations: So Easy Even a CavemanCould Do It."
