Focused on unique but practical designs, the Chattanooga (Tenn.) Convention Center (www.chattcon vention.org) is constructing a new, environmentally conscious exhibition hall. In addition to more floor space, key characteristics of the expansion will be passive solar lighting, natural ventilation, and an ambitious zero-emissions waste-water treatment system. Throughout the new building, public spaces will be column-free. Most notable of these spaces is the main exhibit hall, with clear-span dimensions of 250 by 400 feet. This hall will be able to host 500 exhibitors or 8,000 people in a theater setting.
