Basic topical and systemic therapy for equine skin disease is presented. Principles of topical therapy and specific antipruritic, antibacterial, antifungal, antiseborrheic, and insecticidal agents are discussed. Systemic therapy includes discussion on antibiotics for specific bacterial infections and fungal infections. Additionally, newer products or techniques on managing pruritus are presented, particularly antihistamines, fatty acid supplements, hyposensitization, and glucocorticoid therapy.
