摘要

THE 2005 ALFA/MLA September quarter production survey for the Australian feedlot industry has shown that while numbers on feed have dropped back on the June figures, they are still a record for September at 4.4% ahead of the previous September 2004 record. Cattle on feed totalled 792,224 and total feedlot capacity increased to 1,098,644, up 6.83% on the previous record. Mr Malcolm Foster, President of ALFA said that "the drop in the numbers on feed was primarily due to the short supply and consequential high prices for feeder cattle following the breaking of the drought conditions in most areas of the country. "In addition, the normal industry seasonality, particularly in Western Australia, and the ongoing uncertainty around the timing and the effect on Asian markets that the US re-entry will play, have affected the numbers on feed".
