WINNERS of the prestigious 2006 Nuffield Scholarships have started 'work', heading overseas on the weekend for a study tour which takes in three continents and a wealth of experience of farming systems and market arrangements. Amongst them is Chinchilla's Ronald Thompson, who is the winner of the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) Northern Region scholarship. Ronald's scholarship will allow him to study how we can use our diminishing rural workforce more effectively. "Mining is competing very effectively with agriculture for both skilled and un-skilled rural workers," Ronald said.
