A recent test of the National Livestock Identification Scheme (NLIS) traced the movement of 99 cattle with 100 per cent accuracy. The exercise of the system that industry would rely on in the case of an emergency animal disease met both key objectives - animal movements were traced for the previous 30 days within 24 hours, back to property of birth within 48 hours, and thousands of in-contact animals were located.
