摘要

Sterols are important structural molecules throughout eukaryotes for determining membrane fluidity and permeability. Plants have a great diversity of these compounds, and the membrane sterol composition can be spatially and developmentally regulated. Little is known about the functions of most of these sterols, except for the brassinosteroids (BRs), which are phytohormones regulating postembryonic development via signal transduction pathways.
