This article is the second in a two-part series on separation anxiety. The first part was published in the November 2011 issue of Trends magazine. The successful management of sepa-ration anxiety includes teaching the dog to tolerate owner absences and correcting the specific problems of chewing, scratching, digging, barking or elimination. Adding another pet: In rare situations, providing another pet will provide a playmate or distraction for the dog. The additional pet does not necessarily have tobe another dog. Turtles, ferrets or cats might provide companionship or stimulation.
