摘要

Tannins from 32 Sudanese indigenous and exotic wood species and two agricultural crops (kenaf and sunflower stalks) were screened by different methods. Most of the tannins were of the condensed or hydrolysable-condensed types. Seventeen species contained tannin quantities of commercial interest. Comparing tannin extract mixtures from species of low tannin content with the rich garad (Acacia nilotica ssp tomentosa pods) tannin gave astringency profiles close to that of the commercial mimosa tannin.This modification could extend the use of garad in tanning.
