Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis is caused by Feline Herpesvirus I (HVF1). Although the virologic culture is not used in daily clinical practice, its isolation is important to better understand the pathogenesis of the disease. HVF1 is recognized in the clinical set-up and is identified and isolated in different geographical areas, but is still not reported in Argentina. This paper describes the isolation and diagnosis of HVF1 in a domestic cat (Felis silvestris catus) with chronic bronchopneumonia. It is suggested that the role of HVF1 during chronic respiratory infections in cats should be taken into consideration during the diagnosis.
