The disposal at landfill sites and agricultural use of municipal sewage sludge is rendered increasingly difficult due to changed laws. The recycling of sewage sludge by CO-combustion in existing coal-fired power plants is gaining in importance. In the autumn of 1996, Energie-Versorgung Schwaben AG has made a CO-combustion test with thermally dried sewage sludge in the CHP plant Heilbronn in order to ascertain whether a long-term thermal utilization is feasible.
