Delphi's Answer to the Complex OEM-Supplier - Relationship: 'Keep it Simple!'

I am often asked my opinion about the current state of relations between OEMs and auto suppliers. Frequently, the question suggests this relationship has somehow dramatically deteriorated over the past few years. I've spent more than 40 years in the car and truck business and have seen both sides first-hand. In reality, the interaction between automakers and parts manufacturers has always been complex and challenging, particularly with respect to price. That hasn't changed in four decades, and I don't expect it will. What I have noticed, however, based on my conversations with customers and others in our industry, is a huge shift in what automakers want from suppliers. Simply put, understanding these evolving expectations - and meeting them - is the key to a better relationship between a supplier and its OEM customers.
